How does automatic boiler blowdown work?
As steam is produced, dissolved solids remain in the boiler water and become increasingly concentrated. A boiler blowdown controller measures conductivity as an indicator of this concentration. When conductivity reaches the programmed setpoint, the controller activates the surface blowdown valve, and blowdown continues until conductivity returns to the desired range. Conductivity-based control lets the system respond to actual boiler-water conditions instead of relying on manual adjustments or fixed blowdown schedules.
What are the benefits of conductivity-based control?
- Improve consistency of boiler-water chemistry
- Optimize cycles of concentration
- Reduce unnecessary blowdown
- Conserve treated makeup water and heat energy
- Reduce operator intervention
- Limit conditions that contribute to scale, foaming and carryover
- Improve alarm and operating-history visibility
Why use prefabricated boiler equipment?
Field-built boiler blowdown and sampling assemblies require contractors to select, mount and connect numerous components. Prefabricated valve packages, valve stands and sensor panels consolidate these components into organized, factory-assembled systems — reducing installation labor, simplifying commissioning, improving service access and helping standardize equipment across multiple boiler rooms or facilities.
How do I choose the right boiler water treatment equipment?
- Boiler operating pressure
- Continuous or intermittent sampling requirements
- Blowdown valve type
- Sample temperature and pressure
- Required sensors and control functions
- Communication and remote-access requirements
- Available wall or floor space
